Step 3: Image a Device

Note: A console-initiated deployment requires a network Deployment Package. If you haven't already create one, see the Create a Deployment Package article in the Boot Media section of the User's Guide.

Start the Web Console-Initiated Deployment

1. In the Computer Management workspace of the SmartDeploy Web Console, go to All Computers.

2. Select the client(s) you want to deploy to, click the Actions button, then under the Deploy section choose Image.
   Note: You can use Shift to select multiple clients. 

   Note: Clients that appear in the Computer Management workspace in gray or faded text indicate that the device is off or there's another issue preventing a full connection between the console host and client. Deployments won't work when clients are in this state. Please see the Advanced Configuration and Troubleshooting section for more information.

3. Select the Distribution Point you want to use (if multiple are available), then select the Deployment Package you want to deploy. Adjust any optional settings as needed, and when finished, click Deploy.
4. When the deployment starts, an arrow icon is displayed next to the client(s).

 Start the Desktop Console-Initiated Deployment

1. In the Computer Management workspace of the SmartDeploy Desktop Console, go to All Computers and select one or more computers that you want to deploy your image to.

   Note: Clients that appear in the Computer Management workspace in gray or faded text indicate that the device is off or there's another issue preventing a full connection between the console host and client. Deployments won't work when clients are in this state. Please see the Advanced Configuration and Troubleshooting section for more information. 
   

2. Once you select the client(s) you want to deploy to, go to the Deploy section and choose Image.

   Note: You can use Control or Shift to select multiple clients. 
   

3. Select Local Network or Cloud Network, depending on where you want the deployment to originate.

   Note: Please see our Cloud Services section for more information on Cloud Deployments.
   

4. Under Deployment Package, select the package you want to use for this deployment. Review its details and adjust any optional settings as needed. Once done, click Next.

   Note: The version of the SmartDeploy Client and the version of the SmartDeploy Console in which the Deployment Package was created must match. You'll receive a warning if they don't match.
    

5. Specify the credentials of an account with access to the selected file location and then click Finish.
   
6. To Confirm Deployment press OK.
7. When the deployment starts, a blue arrow icon is displayed next to the client(s).
