Multicast Deployments

Multicast is enabled for Push Deployments by checking the Multicast checkbox from the Deploy overlay.  Our multicast utilizes UDP packets to send data to Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) members.  The networks must then consist of switches capable of IGMP snooping.  We use a Multicast Group Address of 239.192.1.1 and a UDP port range of 49152 through 65535.  When a Multicast deployment is initiated, the created message in the database has a MulticastImage property set to True.  The property is checked to determine whether the console should send the image as multicast.

Multicast can reduce network traffic if the user is simultaneously deploying 25 or more machines.  If the user is deploying fewer than 25 machines, then multicasting should not be used.
